We’ve given snacking a healthier spin with these fuss-free No-Bake Oaty Energy Balls. Packed with natural sweetness from honey and raisins, slow-release energy from oats, and a touch of nut butter for creaminess, they’re the perfect grab-and-go snack for little hands. With no cooking involved, they’re brilliant for children to help make — all that rolling is fun and slightly messy! Parents will also love them as an afternoon pick-me-up with a cup of tea.

Ingredients

  • 100g rolled oats

  • 50g raisins (or chopped dried apricots for variety)

  • 2 tbsp honey (or maple syrup for a vegan option)

  • 2 tbsp smooth peanut butter (or almond butter/sunflower seed butter for nut-free) • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 tbsp chia seeds or ground flaxseeds (optional for extra fibre)

Directions

  • Place the oats, raisins, peanut butter, honey, vanilla, and optional seeds into a mixing bowl.
  • Stir well until the mixture comes together into a sticky dough
  • Use clean hands to roll into small bite-sized balls, about the size of a walnut.
  • Place on a tray lined with baking paper and chill in the fridge for at least 30 minutes to firm up.
  • Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.

Notes

  • Fussy eater swap: Roll the balls in desiccated coconut, cocoa powder, or crushed cornflakes for different textures.
  • No mess option: Press the mixture into a tray, refrigerate, and slice into flapjack-style squares instead of rolling.
  • Parent treat: Dip a few balls in melted dark chocolate for an indulgent snack.
  • Freezer-friendly: Freeze for up to 2 months — they defrost in minutes for an instant snack.

Variation Tips

Add cocoa powder for a chocolatey version.

Mix in dried fruits like raisins, cranberries, or apricots.

Roll in shredded coconut or crushed nuts for extra crunch.

Swap nut butter for sunflower seed butter for a nut-free option.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Using too much liquid sweetener – mixture may turn sticky.

Not chilling the mixture long enough – balls won’t hold shape.

Skipping binders (nut butter/honey) – oats won’t stick together.

Overloading with add-ins – can make the mixture too crumbly.
