We’ve given a refreshing twist to everyday hydration with our Watermelon and Mint Splash. Juicy watermelon, which is over 90% water, makes this drink naturally hydrating and packed with vitamins A and C. Fresh mint leaves add a cooling lift, while a squeeze of lime balances the sweetness perfectly. This simple but vibrant juice is the ultimate thirst-quencher for children, and a brilliant way to encourage them to enjoy fresh fruit in liquid form.

Ingredients

  •
½ medium watermelon, peeled and chopped into chunks (about 800g flesh)

  • A handful of fresh mint leaves (about 10–12 leaves)

  • Juice of 1 lime

  • 200ml chilled water or coconut water (optional, for a lighter drink) • Ice cubes, to serve

Directions

  • Place the watermelon chunks into a blender.
  • Add the fresh mint leaves and squeeze in the lime juice.
  • Blend until smooth. If you prefer, add chilled water or coconut water and blend again
  • Strain through a fine sieve if your child prefers a smoother texture.
  • Pour into glasses over ice cubes and garnish with a sprig of mint.

Key Notes

  • For fussy drinkers, serve in a fun cup with a colourful straw — it makes the drink feel more like a treat.
  • Keep it smooth: if your little one dislikes pulp, always strain the juice before serving.
  • Parent twist: add sparkling water for a fizzy, grown-up mocktail version.
  • Best served fresh — but you can store in the fridge for up to 24 hours.
  • Turn into lolly pops during the summer or for parties.

Variation tips

Citrus Twist – Add a small squeeze of lime or lemon for an extra zing, but keep it light so the mint and watermelon remain the stars.

Sparkling Splash – Top it with sparkling water for a fizzy summer refresher.

Herbal Upgrade – Swap mint for basil for a slightly different, gourmet twist.

Frozen Treat – Blend with ice or freeze into popsicles for a kid-friendly, cooling snack.

Sweet Boost – If you prefer a sweeter drink, add a drizzle of honey or agave syrup (optional).

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Too Much Lemon or Lime – A strong citrus flavor can overpower the natural sweetness of the watermelon and may be too sharp for kids or fussy eaters.

Overpowering Mint – Adding too many mint leaves can make the juice taste bitter instead of refreshing.

Using Overripe Watermelon – This can make the juice taste mushy or overly sweet instead of crisp.

Skipping the Chill – Serving it warm takes away the refreshing, cooling effect. Always serve cold or with ice.

Not Straining (if blending fresh) – Some people dislike pulp or small seed bits. Straining makes it smoother and more appealing for children.
