Soursop Cream
We’ve given a little love to the exotic soursop fruit in this recipe. Known for its naturally sweet yet slightly tangy flavour, soursop is rich in Vitamin C and antioxidants. Blended into a light cream, it makes a tropical dessert that’s both refreshing and satisfying. Perfect for introducing children to new fruits, while still keeping things smooth and fuss-free. It can be drink natural or when spiced and sweetened with condense milk.
Ingredients
1 ripe soursop (about 500g flesh), peeled and seeds removed
200ml chilled evaporated milk or coconut milk
2 tbsp honey or maple syrup (optional, depending on sweetness of fruit)
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp nutmegA squeeze of fresh lime juice (optional, for balance)
Directions
- Carefully remove the soursop flesh from the skin and discard the seeds. Place the flesh into a blender.
- Add the evaporated milk (or coconut milk), honey or maple syrup, vanilla extract, and lime juice
if using - Blend until completely smooth and creamy. Taste and adjust sweetness if needed.
- Pour into small bowls or glasses. Chill in the fridge for 30 minutes before serving, or enjoy immediately for a softer texture.
Key Notes
- Fussy eater friendly: Strain the mixture through a sieve if little ones prefer a smoother finish.
- No extra sugar: If your soursop is very ripe, you may not need any added sweetener.
- For parents: Top with a sprinkle of nutmeg or toasted coconut flakes for a grown-up twist.
- Make ahead: This cream keeps well in the fridge for up to 24 hours — perfect for prepping in advance.
Variation Tips
Coconut Blend – Add a splash of coconut milk for extra tropical creaminess.
Citrus Lift – A squeeze of lime brightens the flavor for adults.
Frozen Treat – Freeze into popsicles for a fun, kid-friendly dessert.
Nutty Twist – Top with crushed pistachios or almonds for texture.
Layered Parfait – Pair with granola or fruit for a wholesome snack.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Too Much Citrus – Overpowering lime or lemon can mask soursop’s natural sweetness (especially off-putting for kids).
Over-sweetening – Adding too much sugar can make it heavy and lose its natural tropical charm.
Grainy Texture – Not blending well can leave fibrous bits that fussy eaters may dislike.
Serving Too Cold – If frozen too hard, the cream can lose its silky texture.
Using Overripe Soursop – This can make the cream taste overly sour or fermented.
