We’ve turned everyday yoghurt and fruit into a fun, frosty treat with these Fruity Frozen Yoghurt Cups. Using dairy-free yoghurt makes them gentle on little tummies and perfect for a plant-based diet. Fresh berries provide a burst of natural sweetness and antioxidants, while the freezing process gives a creamy, ice-cream-like texture that children love. These cups are an excellent alternative to shop-bought ice lollies and can be made ahead for a healthy snack or dessert.

Ingredients

  • 300g dairy-free yoghurt (such as coconut or soy yoghurt)

  • 100g fresh strawberries, finely chopped

  • 100g blueberries (or any fruit your child prefers)

  • 2 tbsp maple syrup or honey (optional, depending on sweetness of fruit)

  • 6 silicone cupcake cases or a muffin tin lined with paper cases

Directions

  • Spoon a little yoghurt into each silicone cup to form the base layer.
  • Add a few chopped strawberries and blueberries on top.
  • Swirl in another spoonful of yoghurt, then repeat with more fruit, creating layers.
  • If using, drizzle with maple syrup or honey before the final swirl of yoghurt.
  • Place the cups in the freezer for at least 3 hours, or until completely firm.
  • Pop out of the cases and serve straight from the freezer.

Key Notes

  • For younger children, blitz the fruit before layering for a smoother texture.
  • Add fun: sprinkle with dairy-free chocolate chips or granola before freezing.
  • Perfect summer treat: these can double up as cooling snacks on hot days.
  • Parent twist: add a swirl of nut butter before freezing for extra richness.

Variation Tips

Use strawberries, blueberries, mango, kiwi, or mixed berries.

For fussy eaters, stick to familiar fruits like strawberries or bananas first.

Blend fruit into the yogurt for a smooth finish (great for picky eaters who dislike fruit chunks).

Layer chopped fruit on top for a burst of texture if your eaters enjoy variety.

Add honey, maple syrup, or agave if using unsweetened yogurt.

For little ones, use naturally sweet ripe fruit instead of added sugar.

Sprinkle granola, crushed biscuits, or nuts on top before freezing.

For fussy eaters, leave out crunchy toppings or replace with soft fruit puree.

Use coconut, soy, or almond yogurt for a plant-based frozen cup.

Common Mistakes

Using watery fruit.

Fruits like watermelon can create icy texture. Stick to berries or bananas for creaminess.

Without cupcake liners or silicone molds, frozen yogurt sticks and breaks apart.

Leaving them too long makes them rock-hard. Let sit for 5 minutes before serving.

Can cause ice crystals. Mix in moderation.

Fussy eaters may get overwhelmed. Start simple with one fruit (like strawberry only) and build up variety.
