We’ve turned a simple milkshake into a magical treat with our Fruity Unicorn Shake. This layered delight combines sweet mixed berries, creamy banana, and a gentle hint of vanilla for a fun, colourful twist. Packed with natural fruit sugars, fibre, and vitamins, it’s a milkshake that feels indulgent while sneaking in a boost of goodness. Perfect for kids who love bright, playful foods — and for parents who want something quick, healthy-ish, and guaranteed to impress.

Ingredients

  • 1 ripe banana

  • 150g mixed berries (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries) – fresh or frozen

  • 300ml plant-based milk (almond, oat, or soya) or regular milk

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 tbsp maple syrup or honey (optional, for extra sweetness)

Directions

  • Whipped cream and rainbow sprinkles, to serve (optional but fun!)
  • In a blender, combine the banana, half of the milk, and vanilla extract. Blend until smooth. Pour into two glasses, filling them halfway.
  • Rinse the blender, then add the mixed berries, remaining milk, and sweetener (if using). Blend until smooth.
  • Slowly pour the berry mixture on top of the banana layer to create a two-tone “unicorn” effect.
  • Top with whipped cream and rainbow sprinkles for a magical finish.

Key Notes

  • For fussy drinkers, serve without the sprinkles or cream — the natural fruit colour still looks exciting.
  • Use frozen berries for a thicker, frosty shake texture.
  • Parents can add a scoop of protein powder or a spoonful of nut butter for an energy-boosting version.
  • Best enjoyed fresh, but you can refrigerate for up to 4 hours if needed.

Variation Tips for Fussy Eaters

Use fresh fruit – strawberries, blueberries, or mango for natural sweetness and colour.

Add hidden nutrition – a handful of spinach or chia seeds blends in without changing taste.

Swap dairy – use almond, oat, or coconut milk for a lighter option.

Mini versions – serve in small cups with fun straws for kids.

Frozen fruit base – creates creaminess without too much ice cream.

Play with toppings – marshmallows, sprinkles, or edible glitter to make it magical.

Mild flavours – for sensitive palates, stick to one fruit (like strawberry) instead of mixing too many.

Common Mistakes To Avoid

Overloading on artificial colours – can make the shake too sweet or unappealing.

Mixing too many fruits at once – leads to clashing flavours instead of a balanced taste.

Using only syrups – makes it overly sugary without natural fruit freshness.

Not chilling ingredients – results in a runny, thin shake instead of creamy.

Skipping whipped cream/toppings – presentation is key for fussy eaters and kids.

Blending too long – can dull the bright pastel colours by overmixing.

Forgetting portion size – too large a shake may overwhelm picky eaters.
