We’ve turned a classic lunchbox favourite into a creamy, playful milkshake that children will love. The nutty richness of peanut butter blends perfectly with the fruity sweetness of jam (or fresh berries if you prefer a lighter version). Dairy-free milk keeps this shake plant-based and wonderfully smooth. Packed with protein from peanuts and natural fruit sugars, it’s a fun way to enjoy a nostalgic flavour in drinkable form.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp smooth peanut butter (unsweetened if possible

  • 2 tbsp strawberry or raspberry jam (or ½ cup fresh berries

  • 400ml chilled plant-based milk (oat or almond works well

  • 1 small frozen banana (optional, for extra creaminess

  • Ice cubes (optional

  • Whipped dairy-free cream and a drizzle of jam, to serve (optional)

Directions

  • Place the peanut butter, jam (or berries), milk, and banana into a blender.
  • Blend until smooth and creamy. Add a few ice cubes and blend again if you’d like it chilled and frothy
  • Pour into glasses and top with whipped cream and a drizzle of jam for a fun finish.

Key Notes

  • Swap the jam for fresh berries if your child prefers less sweetness.
  • Try crunchy peanut butter for extra texture.
  • Serve with a colourful straw to make it even more appealing for little ones.
  • For parents: add a shot of espresso to make it a grown-up PB&J energy shake!

Variation Tips for Fussy Eaters

Swap jelly for fresh fruit – use strawberries, raspberries, or blueberries for natural sweetness.

Try different nut butters – almond or cashew butter offers a milder flavour.

Make it a smoothie – add banana or oats for creaminess and extra nutrition.

Turn it into a dessert shake – top with whipped cream or drizzle with honey.

Go dairy-free – use oat milk, almond milk, or coconut milk for sensitive tummies.

Make mini portions – serve in small cups to avoid overwhelming picky eaters.

Add hidden veggies – a handful of spinach or zucchini blends in without changing taste.

Common Mistakes To Avoid

Using too much peanut butter – makes the shake heavy and overpowering.

Choosing the wrong jelly/jam – overly sweet or artificial Flavours can ruin the balance.

Skipping frozen fruit or ice – leads to a thin, watery texture instead of a creamy shake.

Not blending long enough – leaves lumps of nut butter that fussy eaters may dislike.

Adding too much milk – can dilute the peanut butter and berry flavour.

Using only jelly without fresh fruit – can make it taste flat and overly sugary.

Forgetting to balance sweetness – both peanut butter and jelly are sweet enough; avoid adding unnecessary sugar.
